Lens Shows Elsewhere
also known as “The Sun Through It”
Every lens reveals the same distant street in perfect focus while the maker’s own workshop remains blurred. When the image becomes a doorway, something crosses through.

What You Are Watching
The film described as it happens, in the present tense. Nothing is interpreted here; this is what is on screen, and it is all you need to watch it.
A lens grinder works in a workshop where everything, including his face, is soft. Each finished glass projects a sharp street he has never visited. A woman in red and a black dog remain centred however the lens moves. The image persists after the glass is removed.
The dog steps through the projected light, wet paws landing on the workshop floor. Later the street pools between the man’s knees and he mops it away. When his next lens produces only ordinary light, the workshop finally becomes sharp. Yet the street continues inside the dog’s eye.

What Follows
What the film makes true, followed past the image until something is at stake. The question it leaves open is left open.
The man builds instruments for seeing elsewhere and loses the ability to see where he is. This is not distraction but allocation. Focus is a finite relation: sharpening one world spends the attention with which another might have appeared.
The image survives the lens because the instrument was never the true source. Tools organise attention, but attention can outlive its tool and attach itself to new carriers. Once the dog crosses, the remote world becomes an obligation that eats, sleeps and looks back.
The film also reverses representation. A picture normally stands for what is absent. Here the represented thing becomes causally present, leaving wet prints. Yet presence does not resolve the mystery. The street remains elsewhere even when one of its inhabitants shares the room.
The restored workshop is therefore not a simple return. The man can see his life clearly only after accepting something from the lost image into it. Attention cannot be rewound to its original state. What has been perceived leaves a dependency behind.
